As a member of the Abbott government, we will
do a better job for the country as well as fixing our economy nationally.
I will continue fighting for
smaller, better Government and advocating for the concerns of our community.

The Abbott government will
get our debt and deficit under control and run the economy well.  We will
immediately act to reduce the red tape burden on our businesses, large, medium
and small. We will abolish the Carbon Tax and Mining taxes and we will get our
borders under control.

We will make Australia stronger and better
and we won't let you down.

Alex
Hawke MP, Liberal Candidate for Mitchell, today congratulated the Centenary of
ANZAC Hills Community Committee on their successful application under the ANZAC
Centenary Local Grants Program for a $100,000 grant.  I
am delighted to be able to announce today that our community was among the
first to apply for this funding and has been the first to be successful in
being granted funding.

The Centenary of ANZAC will be the most significant
national period of commemoration in our nation’s history. The
committee, ably led by Colonel Don Tait OAM, has worked incredibly hard to
ensure that the programme commemorating the Centenary of ANZAC is one which is
dignified and inclusive and one that will bring our community together. Click here to read further.

Alex Hawke MP, Federal Member for
Mitchell was greatly saddened to learn of the recent passing of Bill Dixon.

“Bill Dixon was
a man of great standing in our community for more than four decades. Bill
selflessly contributed to the success and development of our community
throughout this time. His involvement in community volunteering in Australia
dates back more than seventy years and will remain a testament to character and
strength of this remarkable citizen

“Bill is
probably best known in our community as the founder of the then Baulkham Hills
Home and Community Services program, now known as Hills Community Aid and
Information Service. Bill worked tirelessly to provide services to the isolated
and dislocated in our community through transportation, long day care, and
respite for the elderly to name but a few. There was no limit to his generosity
or sense of civic responsibility

“Not content
to rest on his laurels, Bill turned his focus to fundraising with the
establishment of the Community Foundation of North Western Sydney. The
Community Foundation allowed for funds raised from tax deductable donations to
provide crisis relief including accommodation, financial and trauma counselling.”
Alex Hawke said.

Bill’s
contribution to his community has spanned our country over seventy years of
service;

          War Service (1939-1946)

-           Perth
Light Horse Brigade, AIF in New Guinea and South Pacific

          Volunteer Fire Fighter (1946-1994)

-           Perth,
Western Australia, Gilgandra & Hornsby, New South Wales

          Meals on Wheels NSW (1987-1999)

-           President
of the Founding Committee, managed the Association’s incorporation and future
success

          North Side Citizens Advocacy Service
(1990-1994)

-           Rehabilitation
for institutionalised care patients

          Pennant Hills Neighbour Aid
(2001-2008)

-           President
& Treasurer of community care organisation

          Hornsby Community Health and
Information Service

-           Provision
of crisis relief and the establishment of a long day care centre

          Hills Community Aid & Information
Service

-           Established
the Home and Community Services program with the Baulkham Hills Shire Council
for elderly and disabled residents

-           Services
provided include community transport, long day care, respite care, counselling
support and a no interest loan scheme.

“Simply put, Bill was a tireless
community volunteer who strongly contributed to the growth, development and
spirit within our community. These communities will be worse off without the
hard work and efforts of Bill.  I will
always remember Bill as a man who has always had the best interests of our
community at heart.

“I extend my deepest condolences
to his wife Jenny and sons Greg and Steve at this most difficult time. Our
community grieves with you” concluded Alex Hawke.
