Minister Welcomes City of Fremantle Decision To Restore Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony

Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, has today welcomed Fremantle council’s decision to reinstate a citizenship ceremony at the Fremantle Town Hall on Australia Day, January 26th 2017.

The newest citizens in Fremantle will be offered the choice of attending a citizenship ceremony at Fremantle Town Hall on Australia Day, or the next scheduled ceremony at Fremantle Arts Centre on March 14th 2017, as normal.

Minister warns Fremantle Council not to politicise Australian Citizenship

Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, the Hon Alex Hawke MP, has today written to the City of Fremantle Council to warn them to abandon plans to politicise Australian citizenship.

This follows the Council’s decision to promote and host a citizenship ceremony on a day they are marketing as an anti-Australia Day alternative to traditional Australia Day celebrations.
